Aeration Services
Central turf supply soil aeration services to the Taranaki & wider regions. We help golf course,
bowling green & croquet green managers with their soil structure.

The Process
Aeration relieves compaction in turf, increases water infiltration, increases microbial activity to promote aerobic conditions in the soil which helps break down organic build up and reduce thatch
accumulation and expels CO2 build up.
Over the years methods of aeration have evolved from basic forking, to modern methods like coring and verti-draining. There is no simple fix of one process that is the panacea to compaction problems, and aeration is only one of a number of treatments used by the turf manager to create and maintain a healthy surface for their particular plant species and sport.
Traditional methods invariably involve some disturbance of the surface which require clean up by several people and a period of recovery before the surface can be used again.
The Machine
The AIR2G2 is a one man and virtually non-disruptive operation. In some cases golf greens can be treated while play continues on the course. It can be conducted at any time of the year and under most weather conditions. The machine injects 3 tines, spaced 600mm apart, into the ground to a depth of between 150mm and 300mm, depending on the requirement.
Compressed air is blasted directly into the ground through holes on the end of the tine, fracturing the soil around the tine and leaving nothing but a 12mm hole. The machine is moved on 600mm and the process repeated.
On a normal sized bowling green, around 3,000 holes. The pressure of the penetration and air that is dispelled is varied to suit the turf.
The introduction of air into the root zone is an obvious benefit, but far from the only one. The AIR2G2 impacts on the space between the holes: aeration is almost instant and this instant de-compaction also improves percolation to dispel surface water.
